We invite you to join us as we make
The Mosaic on Burleigh a better place to live and work!
The
Burleigh Main Street District is one of four new Milwaukee commercial districts to receive Main Street Milwaukee designation. Main Street Milwaukee is a collaborative effort between the City of Milwaukee Department of City Development and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. The program is a comprehensive city-wide approach to neighborhood economic development that uses a proven method to create new businesses and new jobs in urban areas.
In July, 2005, residents, civic leaders and business owners participated in a three-day Vision Design process to identify critical needs, issues and opportunities in the Burleigh Main Street District. They named the district,
"THE MOSAIC ON BURLEIGH," and also developed a strategic plan for future development that includes possible improvements and incorporates the
community's vision
for Burleigh Street. Work is ongoing in the five priority areas identified by the group:
-
Promotion--creating identity-building and image enhancement efforts through effective marketing and quality events for the district
-
Design--identifying
streetscape improvements, improving facades, and helping to
maintain a consistently beautiful street
-
Resource--providing
for volunteer recruitment, development and recognition, as well
as crafting and implementing a fundraising strategy to secure
the project's success.
-
Economic Restructuring--Fostering a quality, vibrant business mix that reflects the neighborhood's diversity through concerted business recruitment, retention and expansion efforts
-
Crime and Grime--promoting neighborhood safety and its perceptions for all visitors and residents in the district and fostering a welcoming physical environment through the positive, clean and healthy appearance of the street
Volunteers are needed and encouraged to join any of these groups as we continue to work hard to make our vision a reality.
